Samsung's semiconductor fabrication facility in Taylor, Texas, is reportedly running prototype production of a next-generation Tesla chip built on a 2-nanometer process, referred to as the A15, according to a report from Electronics Weekly.

A Key Manufacturing Site

The Taylor plant has been central to Samsung's push to expand advanced chip manufacturing capacity in the United States. Tesla has previously partnered with Samsung on chip production, and the reported prototype runs of a 2nm design point to continued cooperation between the two companies as Tesla develops its in-house silicon roadmap.

Tesla's Push for Custom Silicon

Tesla has been increasingly focused on designing proprietary chips to support features such as its Full Self-Driving computer and other onboard systems, reducing its dependence on third-party suppliers for critical hardware. A shift to a 2nm manufacturing process would mark a notable advance in chip density and efficiency compared with earlier generations used in Tesla's vehicles and computing platforms.

Electronics Weekly's report did not provide further specifics on the A15 chip's intended use, production timeline, or when it might be integrated into Tesla products. Neither Tesla nor Samsung has publicly commented on the report.
