Tesla Adds 16-Inch Screen, V2L to China Model 3, Skips US Update

Tesla upgraded the China-market Model 3 with a 16-inch touchscreen and V2L power capability, an update not yet available on the US version, Electrek reports.

Tesla has introduced a hardware refresh for the Model 3 sedan sold in China, equipping the vehicle with a larger 16-inch center touchscreen and vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality that allows the car to power external devices, according to a report from Electrek. The update marks a notable configuration change for the China-market version of Tesla's best-selling sedan, though it has not been extended to Model 3 units sold in the United States, the report said.

What's Changing

The centerpiece of the upgrade is the larger 16-inch display, which replaces the smaller screen previously fitted to the China-spec Model 3. Electrek also reported that the refreshed vehicle now includes V2L capability, a feature that lets the car's battery supply power to external devices or equipment directly, a convenience increasingly offered across Tesla's lineup in various markets.

US Model 3 Unaffected

According to Electrek's report, these enhancements are currently limited to the China market, with no indication that Tesla plans to bring the larger screen or V2L function to the Model 3 sold in the United States. The discrepancy underscores how Tesla continues to tailor feature sets and hardware configurations differently depending on region, a practice the automaker has followed with other models and markets in the past.

Electrek did not specify a timeline for when the updated China Model 3 would reach customers, nor did it clarify whether the changes apply across all trim levels or only select configurations. Tesla has not issued an official statement confirming additional details of the rollout beyond what Electrek reported.

The move adds to a string of regional feature differences Tesla has introduced across its global lineup, as the company adjusts specifications for the Model 3 depending on local market demand, regulations, and supplier availability. It remains unclear whether the China-only features will eventually reach other markets, including the US, in a future update.
