A video capturing a Tesla driver illegally passing a stopped school bus near a bus stop in Franklin, Massachusetts, has raised alarm after showing how close a student came to danger while crossing the street, according to WCVB.

What the Video Shows

Footage from the scene shows the school bus stopped with its stop sign extended, a signal that traffic in both directions is required to halt while children board or exit the vehicle. Despite the extended sign, a vehicle identified as a Tesla can be seen passing the bus as a student was in the process of crossing the road, WCVB reported.

A witness who saw the incident described the moment as terrifying, telling WCVB, "My heart just dropped."

Safety Concerns Raised

The video has renewed concerns among parents and school officials about drivers who fail to stop for school buses picking up or dropping off children. Passing a stopped school bus with its stop sign extended is illegal in Massachusetts and considered highly dangerous, since children can be difficult for drivers to see near the roadway.

WCVB did not report any charges or citations issued in connection with the incident. The report serves as a reminder to motorists of the legal requirement to stop for school buses displaying flashing lights and extended stop signs, particularly in residential areas like Franklin where bus stops are common along neighborhood streets.
