How to Order a Tesla

Step 1: Choose Your Model

Visit tesla.com and select the vehicle that fits your needs. Tesla currently offers the Model 3 (sedan), Model Y (compact SUV), Model S (luxury sedan), Model X (luxury SUV), and Cybertruck (pickup). The Model Y is the most popular choice for families, while the Model 3 is ideal for individuals seeking the best value.

Step 2: Configure Your Tesla

Once you've chosen a model, customize it on the Tesla configurator. You'll select your trim level (Standard Range, Long Range, or Performance), exterior color, wheel size, and interior color. Optional add-ons include Full Self-Driving capability and enhanced interior packages.

Pro Tip: Keep your configuration simple to get faster delivery. White exterior with black interior is typically the quickest-to-deliver combination since they're the default colors with no additional cost. Custom colors like Ultra Red or Midnight Cherry Red can add 2-4 weeks to delivery time.

Step 3: Place Your Order

Click "Order" and provide your contact information and delivery address. You'll pay a $250 order deposit by credit or debit card. This deposit is applied toward the purchase price and is fully refundable if you change your mind before your vehicle enters production.

After placing your order, you'll receive a confirmation email and access to your Tesla Account, where you can track your order status, upload documents, arrange financing, and schedule delivery.

Step 4: Payment & Financing

Tesla offers three payment methods: cash, financing through Tesla's lending partners, or lease. Financing rates are competitive, typically 4.5-6.5% APR depending on credit score and term length. You can also use your own bank or credit union for financing if they offer better rates.

Trade-In: Tesla accepts trade-ins through their online tool. Enter your current vehicle's details to receive an instant offer. While Tesla's trade-in values are competitive, consider getting quotes from Carvana, Vroom, or CarMax to ensure you get the best price.

Step 5: Delivery Day

When your Tesla is ready, you'll schedule delivery at a Tesla center or opt for home delivery (available in most areas).
