Tesla Charging Costs 2026
Home, Supercharger & Cost per Mile — Real Numbers
Home Is Cheapest
At the US average ~17¢/kWh, a full charge costs $10-21 depending on model
Superchargers Cost More
Typically 2-3x home rates — convenience pricing for road trips, not daily use
Off-Peak Wins
Time-of-use plans can cut home charging below 10¢/kWh overnight
Home Charging Cost by Model
Using the US residential average of roughly 17¢ per kWh, here is what a 0-100% charge costs at home (real-world charging adds ~10% for efficiency losses, included below):
Model 3 RWD (~58 kWh)
~$9.90 for ~272 mi
~3.6¢/mi
Model Y Long Range (~75 kWh)
~$12.80 for ~330 mi
~3.9¢/mi
Model S (~100 kWh)
~$17.00 for ~410 mi
~4.1¢/mi
Cybertruck (~123 kWh)
~$20.90 for ~340 mi
~6.1¢/mi
Your rate varies by state: from under 11¢/kWh in parts of the Northwest to 30¢+ in California and New England. Multiply your local rate by battery size for your exact cost.
Supercharger Pricing
Supercharger rates vary by location and time of day, typically landing between 25¢ and 50¢ per kWh in the US. That puts a 10-80% road-trip session on a Model Y at roughly $13-26. Off-peak charging (often overnight) is meaningfully cheaper at many sites, and the in-car map shows the live price at every station.
Even at Supercharger rates, driving a Tesla generally beats paying for gas: a 30-mpg gas car at $3.20/gallon costs about 10.7¢ per mile, versus ~4¢ at home and ~7-12¢ on Superchargers. Find stations and tips in our Supercharger section.
How to Charge for Less
Switch to a time-of-use plan. Most utilities offer EV plans with overnight rates below 10¢/kWh — schedule charging from the Tesla app and the car does the rest.
Charge to 80% daily. It's better for the battery and keeps you in the cheapest charging window.
Pair with solar if you can. Solar owners effectively lock in low per-kWh costs for the life of the system — see our Tesla Energy coverage. For full hardware and setup details, read the complete charging guide.
